I have a recording of the Friday session...and nothing at all was said about recordings.
Can you out your recording online somewhere? (I'd especially like to hear the drama. And, of course, the part about not making recordings.)
i have a complete recording of the 2009 district convention.
at the beginning, the speaker says that if you do record the convention, you are not to use it for general distribution.. why not?.
if the assembly is a public event why not get it around as much as possible?.

here is a talk (part of a symposium) from the current district convention.
it's called "don't forget your relatives":.

Thanks, Cameo-d, but I can't seem to fix it. Oh well.

I found it interesting because it encourages JWs to preach to their worldly relatives. And while they've probably always felt some pressure to do this, in practice I've observed that most JWs keep their religion to themselves when around non-Witness family members. I wonder if this will push them to start bringing the topic up again?
Especially if you have never been a JW, but have JW relatives, listen to this talk. It might give you some ideas on how to get them wake up. At the very least, it will prepare you for what may be coming.
(It's only about 8 minutes long.)
i was reading the thread about hoboken's jc meeting and started thinking about the rule prohibiting recording devices in such meetings.
has anyone on the board tried to challenge this rule?.
on its face, the rule is absurd.
In my situation, I stopped the elders before it escalated to a judicial meeting. But I did record the phone conversations I had with the local elder.
I also explained in a letter that I refused to meet with them unless I was able to record the meetings.
Here are the recordings and a copy of the letter I sent: http://www.watchtowerletters.com/leaving.html
CIVICSI00 - Yes, definitely record the meetings. Do it secretively, if possible (hide a small camcorder in a backpack, for example).
ok, so out of boredom and curiosity, i have unleashed the new.
dvd "the wonders of creation reveal god's glory" on the.
unsuspecting public!.
Missing Link:
I have the entire video on my computer in one file. It's better quality than the YouTube version. I could zip it and email it to you. PM me.
can anyone spare a moment to assist me with a video i am making?
i am attempting to put some visuals with an audio clip i have from the current district convention.. i need:.
images of jws/"bible students" holding signs or wearing sandwich boards that say things like "religion is a snare and a racket".
Thanks for all the info, everyone.
I used one of the sandwich board photos here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rM7JPWW096s
here are some 'highlights' of friday's session: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rm7jpww096s.
the singing you hear at the beginning is an excerpt from the new song book!
very encouraging!.

And for those of you who missed it, here's a video I made detailing some of the finer points from a symposium at last spring's Circuit Assembly:
family night is held once a year at bethel and all the branches.
when i was a missionary, every year both missionary homes in that country were invited to the branch office, and we had a dinner with the bethelites, and family night.
the bethelites did some singing and skits, and each missionary home was invited to submit something.
I attended one. The only memorable segment was of a short film someone made showing the hectic schedule the shuttle bus driver had. It started with him walking out into the garage, sliding on his leather gloves, then getting into the driver's seat. Then there was Star Trek music and the van took off hurtling through space. Cheaply done, but amusing.
Some brother played a kingdom melody on his guitar, too, I think.

Only the Watchtower Society would think that a song could "help with discouragement".
ive posted on this before, but i figured i should lay my thoughts out again on the subject.
there are some in the ex-jw community who are saddened because the watchtower organization has turned me and others like me off to god.
the watchtower attacks and debunks other religions on a regular basis, often giving us the sense that if the watchtower is wrong, then there cant be a god.
Your example of Ray is a good one. I am currently reading In Search of Christian Freedom, and from what I can tell, it's simply a big, long tale of how he escaped the pen, but has no intention of leaving the zoo.
On the phone with my mom the other day, she repeatedly asked me what religion I now belonged to; it seems unfathomable to most JWs that a Witness could leave ALL religions. Like you, however, once I accepted the bible for what it really was, I became an atheist by default.
Thanks for the great post; one of the finest I've read in a while.
